Join this webinar with Katherine Atkinson, CEO of Safer Tourism Foundation, to explore how extreme heat affects different kinds of travellers, and what the industry can do to reduce the risk of harm as our holidays get hotter.
The webinar will cover:
- How patterns of heat are changing: long-term warming versus short-term heatwaves
- How heat affects the body, physically and mentally, and why dry and humid heat impact travellers differently
- Why some travellers are more vulnerable, including the very young, older travellers, and those with pre-existing conditions
- Recognising the difference between heat exhaustion (manageable) and heatstroke (requires medical attention)
- Key risk points and existing controls for operators, suppliers and DMCs, and what may need to change in product development, itineraries and customer briefing
- How to talk to customers about heat, and what that could mean for your sales, marketing and in destination communications
Safer Tourism Foundation is a charity working to save lives and prevent harm to travellers on holiday, through research, campaigns and initiatives like the Safer Tourism Pledge, as well as working directly with the travel industry to raise safety standards. Katherine Atkinson leads this work as CEO, drawing on the Foundation’s own research and incident data to help the industry understand and act on emerging risks like extreme heat, before they become traveller safety incidents or reputational issues.
