ABTOT Celebrates the Winners of the 2024 #ABTOTOneShot Photo Competition

The Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust (ABTOT) is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2024 #ABTOTOneShot photo competition. Now in its third year, the competition gives ABTOT Members a platform to showcase their stunning travel destinations and unique tour experiences.

Launched on 15th July and running through 15th September, the #ABTOTOneShot competition invited Members to submit their best travel photographs. This year’s competition received an overwhelming response, with more than 150 entries submitted by travel organisers. The standard of submissions was exceptionally high, leading to spirited discussions during the judging process.

New Categories for Broader Recognition

For 2024, ABTOT introduced four photographic categories, offering more chances for Members to win the coveted top prizes. The categories were:

  • Cities Building and Accommodation
  • People and Culture
  • Landscapes and Landmarks
  • Wildlife and Birding.

Each category saw remarkable entries, making the judges’ job especially challenging. The ABTOT judging panel, comprising Samantha, Vicky, Julie, Natalie, and Bernice, reviewed all submissions independently, each shortlisting their top five selections. After careful deliberation, the panel chose the winners in each category.

And the Winners Are…

Cities, Building and Accommodation

Malcom Duckworth, Time Exposure Travel

Malcolm’s winning photo, taken at Aberdeen University in summer 2024, captures the majestic King’s College Chapel, silhouetted by the setting sun.

“I’m extremely pleased to win the ABTOT Photography Competition. The Unicorn, Scotland’s national animal, is such an iconic figure, and this photo was a special moment during a tour I was leading.”

People and Culture

Zoe Kirkbride, Absolute Escapes

Zoe’s entry, a striking image of the famous white house in Glencoe, Scottish Highlands, taken in December 2023, perfectly captures the drama of Buachaille Etive Mór.

“I love exploring Scotland with my camera, and this photo is especially meaningful as Glencoe holds immense cultural and historical significance.”

Landscapes and Landmarks

Robin Ball, Bamboo Travel

Robin’s winning photograph of the sunset over the long jetty at Kadidiri Paradise Resort, Sulawesi, was taken during a research trip in 2018.

“As a novice photographer, I’m amazed to win. The Togean Islands’ beauty did all the work, and this moment captured the essence of the serene sunset.”

Wildlife and Birding

Burnham Arlidge, Swoop Travel.

Burnham’s breathtaking shot of a polar bear in Svalbard, taken from a zodiac in challenging conditions, stood out in the Wildlife and Birding category.

“I’m delighted to win this category. It was such a special moment to capture on camera, and I hope this photo raises awareness about the polar bear’s fragile environment.”

Congratulations to all our fabulous winners.

ABTOT extends its congratulations to all winners and participants. The full gallery of submissions will be published soon, showcasing the incredible talent across ABTOT’s membership. As well as the panel’s favourites soon.

For those who missed out on entering this year’s competition, we look forward to seeing your entries next year!
